The Burger Week Burgers with The Most Local Flavour

For burger lovers, there’s no better week than Burger Week in Halifax (March 22 to 28, 2018). 125 restaurants serving up amazing creations. Check out the full burger lineup and prepare your must-try list. And, since you’re as into local as we are, put these local ingredient burgers on the top of your list.

Lion & Bright – Summer Spiced Local Source Burger

These folks are serious about letting local ingredients shine in their food. And their Burger Week creation is no exception. Moroccan spiced free-range Oulton’s beef, Hutten summer peach chutney, Trueleaf arugula, turmeric FoxHill yogurt…all on local rosemary focaccia. Wow. Just wow.

Elle’s Bistro – Jalapeno Beer Cheeseburger

Elle’s loves local ingredients and big flavours coming out of the kitchen. So, check this out. Their burger starts with Schoolhouse Brewery Stout-marinated local grass-fed beef. Then, they top it with candied bacon and to throw in even more local craft beer, it’s smothered in Nine Locks IPA cheese sauce. Jalapenos and an onion ring top it all off. Local beer. Local beef…winner.

Le Bistro by Liz – Crispy Haddock Burger

Guess what the star ingredient is in this one? You got it – fresh Nova Scotia haddock in a panko crust. Top it with sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion and house-made tartar sauce and nestle it in a brioche bun. Winner winner, haddock dinner.

Stillwell - The Muffaletta Burger

So, there’s local beef, then there’s Getaway Farm six-week, dry aged ground beef. That’s the first bit of local love. Now, add in Stillwell Brand™ bologna, beef salami from Peasant’s Pantry in New Ross and smoked ham they do in-house at Stillwell. A little olive salad and provolone cheese to finish things off and Tokyo fries on the side. It’s local with an international flair.

The Brooklyn Warehouse – Cool Ranch Burger

Kudos to these guys for thinking outside the ground beef box. The Cool Ranch Burger is made with Nova Scotia pork and that’s deliciously local. Cured tomato aioli, bacon, crispy onions and toasted goat cheese & dill agrodolce top this mouth-watering hog off.

We’d also like to squeeze in a shout-out to other spots using local to make awesome eats. Ardmore French Toast Burger, The Jughead from Ace @ Battery Park, The Umami Tsunami from Harbourstone Sea Grill & Pourhouse and East of Grafton Tavern’s EOG Burger. There you go. Some of our favourite Burger Week burgers featuring local ingredients. We can’t wait to try them. And remember that when you go out to eat, ask your server “what’s local?”
